Nocturne
Installation Views
A nocturne, in the realm of music, is a composition meant to be performed during the late hours of the night. The title of this piece alludes to the tranquil, waltz-like rhythm that I perceive in the calligraphic text gracefully looping across the print. This black tracery of text over a silvery ground further evokes a sense of tree branches silhouetted against a moonlit sky.
Nocturne is the second in a duet of aluminum-gilded monoprints crafted from a single piece of writing. The writing begins on Serenade, named for a musical composition meant for early evening performances, and seamlessly flows over Nocturne, which represents full night.
When suspended in a space, Nocturne catches and reflects light and dances on surrounding air currents, encouraging viewers to interact with the artwork. It is my aspiration that this engagement will awaken a heightened awareness of the sights, sounds, and sensations that surround the viewer, which they will then carry beyond the exhibition space.
