Les Amas Nuageux
Les Amas Nuageux is a piece from my Parlour Games Series, which delves into what is considered culturally acceptable to showcase in our homes, using motifs, colors, and degrees of intricacy in design.
Les Amas Nuageux means heap of clouds in French.
The puffy cloud shapes of the lichens and drawings in this piece make me think of cumulus clouds multiplying in the sky before a storm on a hot summer day. Furthermore, the artwork’s scintillating metallic shades and vivid, contrasting hues embody the electrifying anticipation that fills the atmosphere just before a storm.
It is of great importance to me to introduce the untamed essence of the outdoors into our everyday spaces. In our homes, we often showcase the cultivated elements of nature, those that are shaped and controlled by human hands. The lichens showcased in this piece possess a colorful, frilly, and delicately beautiful appearance reminiscent of garden flowers. Nevertheless, lichens are often overlooked, undervalued, and trampled upon. Les Amas Nuageux serves as a poignant reminder to appreciate and embrace the beauty present in all aspects of nature – the humble, the wild, and the awe-inspiring.
