Le Brouillard Givrant

Le Brouillard Givrant is included in my Parlour Games Series, which examines which motifs, color pairings, and levels of visual complexity are considered culturally appropriate to showcase in our homes.

Meaning ice fog in French, I chose to tile this piece Le Brouillard Givrant because the silver background, limited color, and lack of depth in this piece remind me of foggy winter mornings in the Midwest. Everything seemed silent and still on those mornings. And as the fog lifted, it unveiled a magical world covered in ice.

In our homes, we often showcase the cultivated elements of nature that are shaped and controlled by human hands. I believe it is important to include the untamed spirit of nature in our everyday living spaces. The lichens in this piece reflect the restricted palette, shapes, and ornate materials of artworks commonly displayed in our homes. Yet, lichens are often disregarded, undervalued, and trampled upon. Le Brouillard Givrant serves as a reminder to appreciate the beauty found in every aspect of nature, whether modest or grand.
