La Pluie Fantôme
La Pluie Fantôme is a piece from my Parlour Games Series, which investigates cultural perceptions of what is deemed fit to display in our households, utilizing uncommon motifs, palettes, and varying levels of complexity in design.
Named after a French term for virga–phantom rain–La Pluie Fantôme captures the ethereal essence of an early spring rain pattering over blooms just cracking through the vestiges of snow with its array of green drips, its icy silver background, and luminous lichens.
Most of the natural elements we showcase in our homes are cultivated – nature controlled by man. The motifs in this artwork mirror the limited palette, shapes, and ornate materials of decorative abstract artworks we typically display in our homes. However, lichens in particular are often overlooked, undervalued and trampled upon. La Pluie Fantôme serves as a reminder us to acknowledge and appreciate the beauty found in every facet of nature, whether humble and untamed or magnificent and breathtaking.
