L'Électrisation du Nuage
L’Électrisation du Nuage forms part of my Parlour Games Series, in which I investigate the constraints of acceptability in the artwork we decide to exhibit in our homes, using a combination of motifs, colors, and levels of complexity in the design.
The electrification of clouds, which is the translation of L’Électrisation du Nuage, refers to the collision of water droplets and ice crystals in the formation of thunderstorm clouds. I chose this title because the arrangement of lichens in this piece bears a striking resemblance to towering storm clouds. Moreover, the artwork’s shimmering metallic hues and vibrant, contrasting colors reflect the crackling anticipation that permeates the air moments before a thunderstorm.
It is important to me to bring the wildness of nature into our every day spaces. The natural elements that are traditionally displayed within our homes tend toward the cultivated, reflecting human dominance over nature. The lichens in this work of art are as ornate and delicately beautiful as garden flowers. Yet, lichens are usually overlooked, undervalued, and tread upon. L’Électrisation du Nuage is a reminder to notice and embrace the beauty in all parts of nature – the humble, the wild, as well as the magnificent.
