Aubade
Aubade is part of my Reverb Series, a collection of large-scale monoprints inspired by the forest of symbols and synesthetic concepts in Baudelaire’s poem “Correspondences”.
An Aubade is a morning song inspired by the natural world, often characterized by a quiet, idyllic quality.
With its bright, shining orb and coppery tones, Aubade captures the brilliance of dawn breaking. I see a tranquil melody in the looping calligraphy that flows over its gilded surface and hear a lively bird-like counterpoint in its lichen and bark patterns.
When installed, Aubade reflects the light in a space and dances with its surrounding air currents. This silent interplay invites viewers to engage with the piece, fostering a deeper connection to their environment. My hope is that taking a moment to play with art will spark a heightened awareness of the sights, sounds, and sensations that surround them, which they will then carry beyond the exhibition space.
