Twelve Series
My Twelve Series explores the concept of growth cycles through a weaver’s lens. Each artwork in the series represents a specific month of the year and is divided into two distinct sections. The upper portion acts as a narrow slice of “sky”, while the lower part embodies either “earth” or “water”, bisected by a seed and its shoot growing toward the light. The red seedling serves as a symbol of life’s emergence and its connection to the past.
The patterns and textures found throughout the series draw inspiration from tapestries and weaving patterns in addition to aerial photographs and maps of Ontario farmland. These patterns reflect my family’s rich tradition of expressing creativity through fiber arts as well as our deep-rooted passion for cultivation. Therefore, the series not only speaks to the cyclical nature of the seasons but also to the life cycle of passing down traditions from one generation to the next.
